  • One of Mary's first memories is playing "Street Fighter II" with her dad — and beating him.
  • While in graduate school, Mary was a founding member of the USM Games Studies group, and served as an editor for its online journal, Quest Log.
  • Mary's article on Southern romanticism and death, "The Undead Past," was featured in Southern Studies Spring/Summer 2019 issue. It focused on "The Walking Dead" comic series.

Experience

For over five years, Mary has co-hosted the "Book Squad Goals" podcast, a passion project sharing her love of pop culture with the internet. There, she carved out her "Late to the Game" blog series, which piqued her interest in games journalism. She applied to SVG, and the rest is history. Creating concise news about the world of video games marries her lifelong enthusiasm for writing and video games.

Education

Mary earned her Ph.D. in English in 2020 from the University of Southern Mississippi, where her dissertation focused on children's literature, disability studies, and identity. Unfortunately, she still can't turn off that critical lens when enjoying the latest "Legend of Zelda" game.
