Call Of Duty Warzone 2.0 Release Date, Trailer And Gameplay - What We Know So Far

The "Call of Duty" series has been a staple of gaming since its debut in 2003. Late this year, the series will see two new additions to the franchise in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" — a sequel to the 2019 reboot of the "CoD" subseries — and "Warzone 2.0," which acts as the successor to popular battle royale mode "Warzone."

Hopes are very high for "Warzone 2.0." The first iteration of the battle royale mode — released as a companion piece for the initial "Modern Warfare" reboot in 2019 — was well-received by critics, who have praised it for providing a solid traditional battle royale experience while also adding enough to stand out amongst a saturated genre. For the sequel to be a success, it must find a way to not only replicate that experience, but add upon it as well. Luckily for fans, it looks like the new iteration aims to do just that. The launch of "Warzone 2.0" is quickly approaching, and here's everything we know about it.

Does Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 have a release date?

The original "Warzone" didn't ship with 2019's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare." Instead, it was released a little over four months later on March 10, 2020. "Warzone 2.0" won't be any different in this regard. According to the official website, "Warzone 2.0" will launch on November 16, on 19 days after the release of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."

When it finally launches in November, "Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0" will be available for multiple platforms across multiple generations. These platforms include the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and the PC. It has been confirmed by Activision that cross-gen play will be supported for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." The first "Warzone" title supports cross-platform play, so it isn't a reach to assume that "Warzone 2.0" will also support competitive and co-operative play between platforms.

Is there a trailer for Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0?

The reveal trailer for "Call of Duty: Warzone" was released on September 15 as part of the Call of Duty: Next event. Mixed in with footage from other multiplayer modes that will be contained within "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and set to an intense cover of "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" by The Smashing Pumpkins, the "Warzone 2.0" trailer shows off the high-octane action the "Call of Duty" franchise has been associated with since its inception. Drones can be seen blowing up helicopters. There are high-speed chases both by car and by boat. It's all pretty chaotic and exciting for players looking forward to the next phase of "Warzone."

The trailer points out several new features, including an exciting third-person perspective mode and a whole new gun modification system called "Gunsmith 2.0." It is also mentioned that players who pre-order "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" will receive early access to the pre-release beta.

What will the gameplay be like in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0?

If the promotional materials are anything to go by, "Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0" won't be too much different than its predecessor in terms of core gameplay. Warzone" is a battle royale mode, so the meat of the game will continue to rely on squads or solo players attempting to be the last ones standing at the end of a match. However, "Call of Duty: Warzone" will be introducing plenty of new features and enhancing existing ones in order to provide a fresh experience.

"Warzone 2.0" will ditch the classics maps in the first "Warzone" in favor of a new map in the Middle East called Al Mazrah, which will also have a section called "Terminal," a multiplayer map from the original "Modern Warfare 2." New features include an AI faction that will provide players more enemies to compete with, and a new Gulag featuring 2-v-2 gameplay and patrolled by an AI enemy called "The Jailer."
