Does Slime Rancher 2 Have Multiplayer?

Some describe the "Slime Rancher" series as a "Pokemon" meets "Stardew Valley" farming game. It doesn't have multiplayer modes like they do, though. No slime battles or co-op ranching. Many Steam reviewers report having an excellent time parent-child bonding while playing, but that's as much "multiplayer" as they were able to get. Now, with "Slime Rancher 2" in early access, long-time fans are wondering if developer Monomi Park finally figured out how to make multiplayer work.

The quick answer? No, "Slime Rancher 2" doesn't have a multiplayer mode. Monomi Park hasn't indicated that it's thinking of adding the long-awaited feature, either. "Slime Rancher" has always focused on a single-player experience, which is something that "Slime Rancher 2" also highlights in its Steam description

There are a few "Slime Rancher" multiplayer mods floating around that might've confused potential players into thinking it was an innate feature, but it's not. Those mods are something fans created after years of yearning for a way to play with their friends in the slime-filled farming game.

Here's what we know so far about "Slime Rancher 2" multiplayer — mod or otherwise.

Slime Rancher 2 doesn't have multiplayer...yet

SatyPardus' "Slime Rancher" multiplayer mod is the go-to choice for playing with friends, even if it warns about potential bugs and crashes. It's apparently a work-in-progress, similar to Steam Early Access games. It also now has a $5 fee. SatyPardus encourages users to also join the mod's dedicated Discord so that they can report bugs and have them resolved as they pop up. However, this is only for "Slime Rancher" and not the early access "Slime Rancher 2."

Fans could develop something similar for "Slime Rancher 2" in the future, even if there's nothing available yet. In any case, multiplayer seems like it'll likely come from fans instead of the developers themselves. It's worth searching for again later in the "Slime Rancher 2" development process, especially since the "Slime Rancher" sequel just launched for early access.

Those interested in playing "Slime Rancher 2" can play it on early access via PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, or Xbox Series X|S. It's even on Xbox Game Pass. Monomi Park hasn't confirmed or denied future PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 support.
