League Of Legends: Frostfire Gauntlet Vs Sunfire Aegis

One way to get better at "League of Legends" is to watch the best streamers. Another way to get good at the game is to learn the in-game items. Items in the popular MOBA game have a plethora of different effects that can be passive or need activation. Knowing these items and their unique effects can help players pick the best item option in every situation – it also helps players know what new things an enemy may be able to do after buying a pricey item. Two examples of this are Frostfire Gauntlet and Sunfire Aegis.

Both Frostfire Gauntlet and Sunfire Aegis are items that are primarily meant for tank Champions and can be seen across various roles in "League of Legends." Both items build from Bami's Cinder, which has a passive effect that deals extra damage — based on maximum health — to enemies that are close to the Champion. As such, both tank items have a similar passive that's upgraded from Bami's Cinder.

While the two mythic tank items are similar, they have major differences that can make or break a game. And since players are only allowed one mythic item in a game, it's important to know the differences between them.

Frostfire Gauntlet

Frostfire Gauntlet is a bit cheaper than Sunfire Aegis, costing 2800 gold. The item gives 20 ability haste, 450 health, 25 armor, and 25 magic resistance. Its first passive ability is from Bami's Cinder, dealing 12 (plus 1% bonus health) magic damage to enemies that are close to the Champion. This range of damage can increase exponentially with Champions that grow in size, and minions and monsters are also affected by it.

The item's second passive is where it stands out. Basic attacks from the Champion will create a frost field around the enemy hit, dealing scaling magic damage while also slowing all enemies. This frost field can increase in size based on the max health of the Champion. The mythic item also gives 100 extra health and 6% size growth for every legendary item.

Frostfire Gauntlet shines because of its frost field. Champions with slows, like Cho'gath, can take advantage of the frost field and chain slows, making it so that an enemy can't escape easily while also buying time for other teammates to get there. Plus, it's a little cheaper than Sunfire Aegis, so it can be bought sooner in most games.

Sunfire Aegis

Sunfire Aegis costs a bit more than Frostfire Gauntlet at 3200 gold, and that price difference is reflected in the stats of the item: 20 ability haste, 450 health, 35 armor, and 35 magic resistance. The passive ability from Bami's Cinder deals 15 (plus 1.75% bonus health) magic damage to enemies that are close to the Champion. Each time the item deals damage to epic monsters (ie Baron Nasher or dragons) will create one stack that lasts for five seconds. This stack increases the damage from the passive by 10%, and it can stack up to six times.

Once the stack hits six, then the Champion's basic attacks start to create explosions that burn in an area around it that scales with bonus size. Additionally, Sunfire Aegis gives every other legendary armor 50% tenacity, 50 bonus health, and 5% slow resist.

This item is better on Champions that want to maximize the damage they put out while also being a tank, such as Mordekaiser, Warwick, or even Support Leona (via MobaChampion's win-rate stats). While it is a bit more expensive, it's much better for more bruiser-esque builds compared to straight tank builds that generally benefit from Frostfire Gauntlet more.
