Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Returns To A Major Prequel Location, Coruscant

"Star Wars Jedi: Survivor" picks up on the plot threads from 2019's hit Souls-like, "Fallen Order," following the continuing adventures of Cal Kestis and his crew of misfits. Having survived Order 66, the attack that killed most of the Jedi Knights, Cal remained in hiding until the Empire's actions forced him into the fight of his life. Though the rebel crew of the Stinger Mantis struck a decisive victory at the end of the first game, they're not in the clear just yet. Five years later, they're still on the run from Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire, trying desperately to stay alive and protect the secrets of everyone else who escaped Order 66. As revealed in a new trailer for the game, their journey will take them to some familiar locales within the "Star Wars" universe.

The Final Gameplay Trailer for "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor" shows off a few of Cal's new tricks and plenty of action set pieces, including a speeder bike chase that culminates in the Jedi tossing a stormtrooper into the path of a speeding TIE Fighter. But eagle-eyed "Star Wars" fans are no doubt most excited by the fact that some of the fights glimpsed in the trailer take place on the gleaming city planet of Coruscant.

Things are gonna get ugly on Coruscant

As "Star Wars" fans likely know, Coruscant most prominently featured in the prequel movies that took place before Order 66. Prior to the Emperor's rise to power, it was one of the best "Star Wars" planets to live on — but that didn't last forever. After the fall of Galactic Republic and the deaths of most of the Jedi Order, Coruscant became the Imperial Center, the capital of the Galactic Empire and the central hub of Emperor Palpatine's maniacal rule. Though many of the game's plot points are still under wraps, things must be pretty desperate for Cal and his friends to risk getting this close to the Empire's heart. It also represents a deadly kind of homecoming for Cal, who previously lived on Coruscant as a young Padawan.

Fans were briefly very excited about the prospect of Coruscant possibly being an open world location like the planets glimpsed in "Fallen Order," but it appears that's not the case. According to Electronic Arts, Coruscant is just one of the many places Cal will visit on his mission.

Even though players may not spend a ton of time on the city planet, that doesn't mean Coruscant doesn't still have some surprises in store. In fact, from the looks of the Final Gameplay Trailer, Coruscant is going to get pretty roughed up. The last few moments of the trailer depict battles against stormtroopers, droids, and the heavily-armored Rayvis, all set against the shining backdrop of Coruscant.
