Red Dead Online Adds 'Gun Rush' Battle Royale Mode

Can you escape the phenomenon known as battle royale? Apparently not. Variety is reporting that Red Dead Redemption 2's Red Dead Online now has a battle royale-like mode called Gun Rush, giving players yet another way to battle each other in the world of Red Dead Online.

According to Variety, Gun Rush stick to a rule set that you'll find fairly familiar if you've played games like PUBG or Fortnite. Up to 32 players are placed on a map with a safe zone that continues to shrink over time. Weapons and ammunition are scattered around the gameplay space, and players have to scrounge up some firepower in order to duke it out with other cowboys and cowgirls and, hopefully, come away as the sole survivor.

How much fun will you have with this mode? It depends. If you like the shooting in Red Dead Redemption 2, you'll likely have a ball. If you're not really a fan of the shooting mechanics in the game, though, there are plenty of other battle royale games for you to choose from.

Gun Rush is live today, but it's not the only thing Rockstar has in the pipeline for Red Dead Online. The company announced today that it's also working on some changes to the game, including the addition of daily challenges, upgrades to the law and bounty systems, and tweaks to the way parley works. Rockstar also has plans to reduce radar proximity so you have to be closer to someone before you show up on their radar.

And, of course, Rockstar has additional content coming in the future, such as new missions and new world events. Red Dead Online is still very much in beta, and will likely stay that way for the foreseeable future. But it seems Rockstar is pretty dedicated to keeping content fresh and making changes where needed. If Red Dead Online gets the love and attention that GTA Online's been getting over the past few years, good things are ahead.
