GTA 6 On Nintendo Switch Is A Hilarious Mess

The "Grand Theft Auto 6" trailer debuted a week ago today, blowing fans away with its graphical fidelity. The new game's gorgeous visuals prompted a sigh of relief from gamers, many of whom were worried about its visuals after tons of early development footage was dumped online in late 2022. Now that everyone knows "GTA 6" is going to look gorgeous, however, some fans are amusing themselves by imagining a version of the game that looks like garbage by today's standards. To that end, YouTube channel Jushton has posted a reimagined "GTA 6" trailer that has been animated in the style of a particularly janky PlayStation 1 game. The short clip reimagines key moments from the official "GTA 6" trailer in a murky polygonal style that honestly makes most PS1-era games look stellar by comparison. It even incorporates some of the same camera angles from the trailer, albeit with flamingos that look like cotton candy and Walter White-looking character doing a T-pose.

Though Jushston's video is meant to depict the new game with PS1-style graphics, the fan community has adopted this fan-made trailer and turned it into a joke aimed squarely at one of PlayStation's competitors: Nintendo. Over on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), fans have shared Jushton's creation and joked that this is what the game would look like if it were ported to Nintendo Switch.

GTA fans react to the demake trailer

It makes sense that gamers would clown on Nintendo Switch ports in this way. Not only have we seen some truly rough Switch ports in 2023, including the janky "Batman: Arkham Trilogy" and "Mortal Kombat 1" releases, but the "GTA" series was hit with some massive downgrades when "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition" was released for the platform in 2021. At this point, fans unfortunately expect certain games to lose a good bit of their sheen when they make their way to the Nintendo Switch hardware.

Fans on Reddit are having a field day with the idea that the PS1-style "GTA 6" trailer is actually advertising a Switch game. One Redditor joked that it looks like "[the] most realistic game on Switch," while another quipped, "This gonna look [fire] on my OLED Switch!" Others have noted that this fake trailer looks more like something that would be on the Nintendo 64. Across the board, however, fans are cracking up just from imaging this as an official trailer.

Of course, it's a pretty safe bet that "GTA 6" will not be on Nintendo Switch. Thus far, the title is strictly being advertised for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC release still in question.
