The X-Men Unite In Latest Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Trailer

The new trailer for Switch-exclusive Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 places the X-Men and their rivals, the Brotherhood of Mutants, in the spotlight. Though they get off to a rocky start, it looks like the two groups will band together to face their common enemy: Thanos and the Black Order.

While a few X-Men were already confirmed as playable characters, the latest gameplay footage throws Psylocke and Beast into the mix. Cyclops and Colossus put in an appearance, thought not in a playable form. Magneto, Juggernaut, and Mystique also feature but it's unclear clear whether they will also join the roster of playable characters. The official announcement implies that this is the case for Magneto, listing him alongside Scarlet Witch, Nightcrawler, and Deadpool.

Playable or not, Magneto will, at some point, take possession of one of the Infinity Stones. He uses the artifact, likely the Power Stone, to rip apart the X-Men headquarters before eventually agreeing to an alliance when the Black Order comes to claim it. The new footage also shows Black Panther, Ultron, Dormammu, and the Skrulls using Infinity Stones.

The latest trailer is quite the coup for X-Men fans, as the group was forced out of many previous games such as Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite due to the power struggle between Marvel and Fox. Now that Disney owns Fox, Marvel is well-positioned to incorporate X-Men and Brotherhood characters into future media.

Featuring a new storyline, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 brings together classic Marvel villains and heroes in a race to find the Infinity Stones. The game will include both offline and online multiplayer and will introduce the new over-the-shoulder "Heroic Camera" perspective.

Other notable heroes joining the series for the first time include Falcon, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, and Hawkeye. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 releases on July 19 on the Nintendo Switch.
