Luigi's Mansion 3 Set To Release On Halloween, Oct. 31

We probably should've seen this coming. Luigi's Mansion 3 has languished without a release date for a long while now, but finally, Nintendo has told us when we can expect to play Luigi's ghost-filled adventure.

Halloween. Of course.

The news comes by way of Eurogamer, which reports that Luigi's Mansion 3 will be releasing for Nintendo Switch on Oct. 31 of this year. Halloween falls on a Thursday this time around, which isn't typically a day Nintendo releases games (often opting for Friday instead). But it seems dropping the game on the spookiest day of the year was too rich an opportunity for Nintendo to pass up. Now we can watch our scary movies, hand out candy to all the kids dressed as Fortnite characters, hear "Monster Mash" for the millionth time, and play Luigi's Mansion 3 — all in the same day.

If you've been missing the Luigi's Mansion series since the original was ported over to the Nintendo 3DS last year, you likely won't be disappointed with Luigi's Mansion 3. Despite the name, the game doesn't take place in a mansion this time around. Instead, Luigi will be exploring a haunted hotel, with multiple floors based around different themes and a less linear campaign than those found in Luigi's Mansion and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Oh, and how could we forget Gooigi? This new character — essentially a clone of Luigi used for puzzle-solving purposes — was first introduced in the Luigi's Mansion 3DS port last year. Gooigi figures to have a much bigger role in this entry, granting players the ability to walk through barred doors and over floor spikes that otherwise serve as obstacles for normal Luigi.

We'll undoubtedly have more for you on Luigi's Mansion 3 as the game draws closer to release. Until then, if you have a Nintendo 3DS sitting around, you can enjoy both the original Luigi's Mansion and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon right now.
