Cyberpunk 2077 Won't Be Casting Lady Gaga After All

Way back in March, we heard rumors that pop star Lady Gaga might have landed herself a role in CD Projekt Red's upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. The studio managed to keep quiet about the possibility, at least until a recent interview. But now the cat's out of the bag.

Lady Gaga will not appear in Cyberpunk 2077, according to WCCFTech (via Push Square).

"She's pretty cyberpunk, so she could fit in!" the studio's Alvin Liu told WCCFTech. "But um, yeah, no Lady Gaga."

How did such a rumor even get started? Well, back at the time it was making the rounds, a French website reported that the singer had actually been seen visiting CD Projekt Red. Further, there was talk she'd been doing some motion capture, which everyone assumed had to be for Cyberpunk 2077. What else? Some other speculation centered around her perhaps lending her voice to the game's soundtrack. As far as we've been able to tell, the WCCFTech piece doesn't do much to deny that specific rumor, since Lady Gaga came up in the context of Keanu Reeves' addition to the game as an actor.

So cheer up, Gaga fans. She is a woman of talent. Maybe she'll still have some part to play in the war to come.

As for now, Reeves appears to be the only major celebrity taking part in Cyberpunk 2077. And the way CD Projekt Red tells it, he was fully sold on the project from the get-go.

"A lot of people in studio love The MatrixJohnny MnemonicSpeed and all that stuff and he was just a really good match for our game genre and what we're trying to do," Liu said. "When we approached him he was like 'Yeah, I understand the artistic vision behind this, I can get behind it.' He was just on board with it, which was great."

Cyberpunk 2077 comes to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on April 16, 2020.
