Will Apex Legends Ever Be Cross Platform?

Apex Legends is still a fairly young title, having only debuted in February 2019. And because of how new it is, some players still have a lot of questions about its present and its future. One that comes up a lot is, "Will Apex Legends ever be cross platform?" And the answer to that really depends on what you're meaning to ask.

Are you wondering if Apex Legends will be available on multiple platforms at some point? We hate to break it to you, but it already is. You can download Apex Legends right now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Unfortunately — though it remains a possibility — there are no plans for a Nintendo Switch release at this time.

But maybe that's not what you mean by "cross platform." Perhaps you're asking if there will be "cross-platform play." And for that one, we have some good news. Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment has expressed an interest in the feature, though because of the studio's size, has had to focus its attention elsewhere. Cross-play has a good chance of making it into the game at some point, though (especially with Call of Duty adding it recently). We just can't say when.

And there's a chance you could mean something else entirely. You could be inquiring about "cross-platform progression," which would enable you to take your Apex Legends progress to any platform you choose. Fortnite has this feature, as do games like Smite and DauntlessDestiny 2 is adding cross-save in the very near future, as well. Unfortunately, this is a feature you shouldn't hold your breath for. Respawn Entertainment has stated that cross-progression likely won't become a reality "due to the way systems were set up early on." So if you currently play on console and you want to make the jump to PC, you'll be starting from scratch.

Hopefully we've your questions about Apex Legends and the state of the game's various cross-platform features. We'll be sure to update you should anything change.
