Pokemon Go adds Pokemon from the Unova region

Fifth generation Pokemon have arrived in Pokemon Go.

Niantic announced the addition of Pokemon from the Unova region to Pokemon Go today, September 16. These Pokemon, first seen in Pokemon Black and Pokemon White, will spawn in the wild, during raids, and hatch from eggs, with specific Pokemon appearing only in raid battles and certain areas of the world.

The developer has confirmed that the following Unova Pokemon will appear in the wild: Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Patrat, Lillipup, Purrloin, Pidove, Blitzle. You might even encounter a Shiny Patrat or Shiny Lillipup. Here is a breakdown of the regional Pokemon that can hatch from each type of egg:

  • 2 km Eggs: Patrat, Lillipup, Purrloin, Pidove
  • 5 km Eggs: Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Blitzle, Drilbur, Foongus
  • 10 km Eggs: Ferroseed, Klink, Litwick, Golett, Deino

Lillipup, Patrat, and Klink will spawn in raids, with Klink billed as a raid-exclusive Pokemon. Niantic also shared several region-specific Gen 5s:

  • Asia-Pacific: Pansage, the Grass Monkey Pokemon
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: Pansear, the High Temp Pokemon
  • The Americas and Greenland: Panpour, the Spray Pokemon
  • Western hemisphere: Heatmor, the Anteater Pokemon
  • Eastern hemisphere: Durant, the Iron Ant Pokemon

The Unova region teaser trailer and related artwork revealed several other Pokemon that you can encounter, including: Servine, Serperior, Pignite, Emboar, Dewott, Samurott, Zebstrika, and Legendary Pokemon Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion.

You'll need the new black-and-white Unova Stone to evolve the Gen 5 Pokemon. You can obtain Unova Stones through Research Breakthroughs, weekly rewards unlocked from completing daily Research Tasks.

Mewtwo, one of the most sought-after Pokemon in the game, also arrives today in Shiny form. Shiny Mewtwo will have a chance to spawn in Tier 5 Raids once the Ultra Bonus goes live. Unlike some other Shiny Pokemon, Shiny Mewtwo's appearance is distinct from its normal counterpart, with the color scheme altered from purple to green.

The Unova Pokemon will be available in Pokemon Go today, September 16, at 1 p.m. PT/4 p.m. ET/9 p.m. BST.
