How Long Does It Take To Beat Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair?

Do you enjoy platformers like Donkey Kong Country? If so, there's a good chance you're going to love what you find in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. This game is, by all accounts, a fitting homage to the Rare platformers of old, right down to its difficulty level. And that might have you wondering: how long does it take to beat?

Now that the review embargo is up for Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, we were able to dive into some reviews in search of completion times, and we managed to find two outlets who put an estimate on how long it took to complete the game's campaign. IGN praised Impossible Lair as a "spectacular and well-paced 12-hour adventure." And DualShockers? Well, that site didn't quite feel the same about the game's difficulty, with its reviewer stating that "the 10+ hours [they] played this difficult platfomer has driven [them] to madness."

Based on those two completion times, we feel confident saying that Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will take between 10 and 12 hours to complete for most players.

As far as reviews scores go, though, it seems that Impossible Lair has been faring pretty well across the board. IGN awarded it an 8.7. Destructoid gave it a 7. Twinfinite saw fit to score it a 4 out of 5. And DualShockers attached a 7.5 score to its review. None of those are bad by any stretch and all are pretty much in the same ballpark. Which is to say, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair doesn't sound perfect. But it seems like it hits enough of the right notes for the Donkey Kong Country fans in the audience.

Now we'll just have to wait and see if this Yooka-Laylee follow-up can pull in the sales to match those reviews. We'd love to see more Yooka-Laylee titles at some point in the future.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair comes to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on Oct. 8, 2019.
