West Of Dead Is A Twin-Stick Shooter Starring Hellboy's Ron Perlman

"Some say a coward dies a thousand deaths and a hero only dies once. I says a hero is someone who keeps coming back."

After popping up early on the Microsoft store, West of Dead, a new twin-stick shooter from Kingdom publisher Raw Fury, made its official debut at XO19. The Wild West-inspired romp features the talents of Ron Perlman, the actor known for his portrayal of Clay Morrow in Sons of Anarchy and the title role in the Hellboy movies.

Set in 1881 at the junction of Purgatory and Wyoming, West of Dead places you in the role of William Mason, undead bounty hunter and guardian of the underworld. It's Mason's job to ensure spirits complete their journey east and reach the realms of the afterlife, a job complicated by the ever-shifting nature of the Crypt, one of Purgatory's many worlds.

As Mason, you'll dodge, take cover, and attempt to outgun your enemies as you make your way through procedurally generated hunting grounds. Wendigos, witches, and other creatures of darkness stand between you and your objective. What exactly that objective is remains unclear.

"A shifting, chaotic world that takes its form from the memories, culture or beliefs of the souls who pass through," teases the official description. "When a dead man awakens with only the memory of a figure in black, he sets into motion a chain of events that have truly mythic consequences."

West of Dead is available to play in open beta from now through November 25. If you manage to take down a wendigo before the beta concludes, you'll unlock a special trophy that will carry into the main game. The full launch will take place at some point in 2020, bringing the Western roguelike to Xbox One and Xbox Game Pass, as well as PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, GOG and the Microsoft Store.
