April 2020 Free Games With Gold
This is no April Fools joke. Xbox Live Gold members can expect four free games to wile away the hours this month. In April, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can look forward to playing the following titles: Project Cars 2, the Knights of Pen and Paper Bundle, Fable Anniversary, and Toybox Turbos. Sharpen your swords and ready your engines. Here's a look at what each of these titles has to offer.
Project Cars 2
This fantasy and racing themed month will kick off with Project Cars 2, which became available on April 1. No need to have played the first game, you'll quickly catch on to the basic mechanics. The Project Cars series, as you may have surmised, is centered around racing, racing, and more racing. This title offers multiple game modes, realistic handling, 140 tracks with dynamic weather physics, and 180 different vehicles to cruise in.
Fable Anniversary
If racing, racing, and still more racing isn't your cup of tea, no worries — one of the most popular games in existence is releasing for Gold subscribers simultaneously. For many, Fable was their first foray into the fantasy adventure genre. The Anniversary edition spruces up the beloved title while remaining true to the core mechanic: your choices dictate your fate. Kind of like real life.
Fable Anniversary is available for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners on April 1 and will stick around until April 15.
Knights of Pen and Paper Bundle
The middle of the month will get meta. In the Knights of Pen and Paper series, you play as characters who are playing characters in a pen-and-paper RPG. Like any good tabletop roleplaying game, you also get to bicker with the Dungeon Master (who you also control). It sounds confusing, but the series is lauded as a fun, engrossing adventure that features delightfully nostalgic pixel graphics and "semi-appropriate cultural references."
The bundle, which includes Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition and Knights of Pen and Paper 2 Deluxiest Edition, will be available from April 16 to May 15.
Toybox Turbos
The end of the month will cap off with fast and not-so-furious Toybox Turbos. This game makes your old Matchbox racers look like, well, toys. The race tracks in Toybox Turbos are interesting, to say the least. Race — alone or with friends online or via couch co-op — over science fair projects, messy desks, and even a breakfast table. There are also power-ups like machine guns and cannons, making this one whacky racing game.
Toybox Turbos will be available for Xbox One and Xbox 360 via Games with Gold from April 16 to 30.
