The Star Wars franchise has bounced back in a major way in the video game industry in recent years, with releases such as "Jedi Fallen Order" and "Zero Company" receiving rave reviews from critics and fans alike. However, the community is still divided over "Star Wars Outlaws," which continues to collect mixed reviews now up to two years after its release. Even if it's not your favorite Star Wars game, though, "Outlaws" does possess some enjoyable qualities that you can often find in other games.

Whether it's the feeling of playing through one of our pop culture's most iconic franchises or just experiencing the various mechanics featured in "Outlaws," there's plenty to like about the open-world game. Of course, if you've already played through "Outlaws" once, you might be looking for a similar experience in a fresher-to-you game. If you fall into that crowd, then you can keep reading below for five games that are very similar to "Star Wars Outlaws" in multiple ways.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

It feels right to start this list off with another game in the Star Wars universe, and why not run with another polarizing entry in the franchise? "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor" is the sequel to "Jedi: Fallen Order," which, put together, are two of the best "Star Wars" games ever. The second game continues the adventures of rebel Cal Kestis, still ducking those who would erase the remaining Jedi. "Survivor" is set between the events of Episode III and Episode IV in the Star Wars timeline, so there are plenty of recognizable characters alive and well in the galaxy.

Compared to "Outlaws," "Jedi: Survivor" features more challenging combat, less open exploration, and more of an emphasis on the narrative than on RPG mechanics. However, it still offers plenty of what you might have liked from "Outlaws," as you get to explore several iconic planets, solve complex puzzles, and experience a thrill ride of a story with twists and turns you'll never see coming. If you happen to like this series as well, then make sure to also check out the best games like "Star Wars Jedi."

Cyberpunk 2077

The setting of any Star Wars game has always been one of the most alluring parts of the franchise, with the sci-fi elements always taking center stage. Well, while it's not quite set in a galaxy far, far away, "Cyberpunk 2077" is easily one of the best sci-fi games of the modern era. Set in the year 2077, it offers a beautiful and dystopian look at the United States where technology and AI have completely transformed everyday life, but at a steep cost to individual identity.

"Cyberpunk 2077" is also heralded as a top RPG in the genre, featuring a massive skill tree of abilities and multiple different character builds that completely change the way you play the game. While this differs from "Star Wars Outlaws," which is more of an action-adventure game, "Cyberpunk 2077" still offers fantastic open-world exploration, unique ways to traverse the world, and a story that will keep you busy for dozens of hours.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

"Horizon Zero Dawn" offers one of the more comparable experiences to "Star Wars Outlaws," especially in that both are open-world action-adventure games that center around a female protagonist who has the world set against her. In "Horizon Zero Dawn," you play as Aloy, an outcast who was born one thousand years in the future after a technological post-apocalypse ravaged the United States — and the world. To put it mildly.

The primary cause behind the apocalypse is a greedy technology CEO, Ted Faro, who created AI machines designed for militaristic purposes. However, the AI in the machines grew smarter and more corrupt over time, leading them to self-replicate and overthrow humanity as the dominant species on Earth. The AI machines, which may look like a variety of real animals, still roam the Earth and keep human civilizations in a permanent, prehistoric state during the main story. The open-world exploration and the lore behind the events that led to the story in "Horizon Zero Dawn" are its two standout features, similar to "Outlaws," but the unique combat that you can customize through different weapons and skills is also a highly enjoyable part of the game.

Avowed

If you were hoping that "Star Wars Outlaws" would have more RPG mechanics, then "Avowed" should be right up your alley. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the team behind "Fallout: New Vegas" and "The Outer Worlds," "Avowed" is an RPG through and through, allowing you to create a character and custom-build them with skills and abilities. You'll also have the opportunity to make narrative choices that completely alter your character's ending.

However, aside from the RPG part of the game, "Avowed" features a map that has several distinct open zones, similar to how the planets are structured in "Outlaws." The story progresses as you complete the narrative elements in these zones, and each one offers different side quests, hub towns filled with NPCs, some of which you can recruit to your party, and unique environments. While "Avowed" doesn't really feel like "Outlaws" in a gameplay sense, it does offer a great story (built in Obsidian's own world, Eora, a fixture of their "Pillars of Eternity" franchise), open and varied exploration, and the ability to affect the world around your character.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Star Wars isn't the only massive entertainment franchise that started as a movie but eventually offered up a video game as well. "Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora" is the first video game set in the "Avatar" universe, which is comprised of three films so far. It actually surpassed the original Star Wars movies as the highest-grossing film trilogy of all time. While "Frontiers of Pandora" didn't break any records, it still stands as a terrific open-world action-adventure game that mirrors "Outlaws" in more ways than one.

Both games are set in iconic locations, with "Frontiers of Pandora" taking place on Pandora itself, and feature original stories from their respective universes. "Frontiers of Pandora" also allows you to freely traverse the world, using a wide variety of traversal options, combat mechanics, and skills to navigate the 20-hour story campaign. If you're looking to live out a dream in another iconic fantasy world, then "Frontiers of Pandora" is one you don't want to miss.
