There are plenty of legendary first-person shooter franchises that have helped the genre dominate the sales charts over the past two decades. However, few are more popular than "Battlefield," which has become the gold standard for many FPS fans in terms of visuals and gameplay. "Battlefield" has continued to pump out new games in the franchise since the turn of the century, but it can take a while for a new title to arrive.

Whether you're looking for something to play while waiting for the next "Battlefield" or you just want to see what similar games have to offer, you're in luck. There are several games, both in the first-person shooter genre and outside of it, that can give you a worthwhile gameplay experience that's like "Battlefield" in one way or another.

Below, you can check out our list of the five best games like "Battlefield," so get ready to lock and load.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

"Call of Duty" and "Battlefield" are two franchises that will always be linked together in some fashion. While the games are different in terms of their design philosophies, both are first-person shooters that have always competed with each other on the sales charts. Originally, "Battlefield" might have attempted to copy "Call of Duty" in certain ways, but now, both games have something unique to offer their respective player bases.

If you're looking for the next-best first-person shooter to play as a "Battlefield" fan, the new "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" is going to be your best bet. This is the final game in the iconic "Modern Warfare" series that players have been waiting for, and it has plenty of elements that might attract "Battlefield" players. There's a larger emphasis on tactical gameplay, a breathtaking single-player Campaign, and the Ground War mode in multiplayer, which is a smaller version of Conquest in "Battlefield." You can also experience DMZ, an extraction shooter mode that "Modern Warfare 4" has poured plenty of resources into. As with all "Call of Duty" titles, you can expect fast-paced gameplay and movement, tight gunplay, and a huge amount of content that continues to grow as the year progresses.

Delta Force

"Delta Force" is an extraction-based shooter that has everything a "Battlefield" player might be looking for in another game. It's a multiplayer first-person shooter with 64-player lobbies, several different kinds of vehicles, and plenty of customization when it comes to your operators and weapons. While "Delta Force" has some extraction-shooter elements, they don't play a major role in moment-to-moment gameplay. Instead, you'll find the gunplay, equipment, and movement in "Delta Force" to be extremely similar to "Battlefield."

Where "Delta Force" tends to stray away and become unique, however, is with its looting mechanics. Being an extraction shooter means that you want to end each match with a hefty amount of loot or valuables, and the map in "Delta Force" certainly gives you a chance to find some rare items. Of course, you'll have to be careful with your loot, as other players can kill you and walk away with everything you've collected. At the end of a match, if you're still alive, you can exfil from the map and keep all of your loot and weapons. It's a great experience that offers something different from the standard arena-shooter gameplay in "Battlefield."

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam

"Hell Let Loose: Vietnam" is a game that draws clear inspiration from the "Battlefield" franchise, but it still manages to put its own spin on the gameplay. The game is set during the Vietnam War, and you can play as either the United States or the Vietnamese forces in 50v50 large-scale multiplayer battles. There are several different maps that are all inspired by real-world locations in Vietnam, and your team faces off against another in a non-stop battle for control of the map.

As a player, you can pick between distinct roles and classes to determine your overall playstyle, as this choice affects what weapons and vehicles you have access to. Speaking of vehicles, "Battlefield" players will be thrilled to hear there are helicopters, ground vehicles, and boats all available during the course of a match. As for the gunplay, it's more tactical than recent "Battlefield" games, focusing more on engaging with the enemy in a strategic way rather than head-on. However, modern movement mechanics ensure players can get around the map quickly, if that's their preferred way to play a first-person shooter.

War Thunder

With how in-depth the "Battlefield" franchise is, there are plenty of unique elements that players might enjoy from its library of games. If the vehicles are one of your favorite parts of "Battlefield," then you'll absolutely want to check out "War Thunder." This vehicle-focused MMO that's free-to-play has been ongoing for over a decade. You won't see any operator gunplay or movement in "War Thunder," as the game solely relies on a huge host of vehicles for all of its combat.

From helicopters to tanks to naval vessels to fighter jets, you can pilot over 3,000 total vehicles from various points in history. There are also over 100 maps to play on, if you decide to take part in PvP gameplay, which sees you join a large-scale multiplayer fight against four to eight other players. However, if PvP isn't your thing, there's also a host of PvE content to play as well.

"War Thunder" continually receives updates that add new content, and its player base has remained strong for a decade. It might not have the gunplay that "Battlefield" fans enjoy, but it more than makes up for that with its vehicle selection and combat.

The Finals

With how top-heavy the first-person shooter genre tends to be, plenty of games have continued to fly under the radar. "The Finals" has remained one of the more underrated games in the genre, and it's the perfect game for "Battlefield" fans to boot up, if they're looking for something fresh to play. Aside from being an arena first-person shooter, "The Finals" also features in-depth destructive map elements that can completely turn a multiplayer match on its head.

Just like in "Battlefield," "The Finals" lets you destroy a building, wall, or other structure to make new lines of sight, remove a piece of cover, or create a quick access point to an objective. You can even use the environmental destruction as a weapon on its own, as falling debris and other objects can kill enemy players.

"The Finals" features multiple game modes and maps that offer different total player counts, but the most iconic mode from the game is Cashout, a 3v3v3 experience where havoc is always wreaked. Even with how fast-paced it can be, though, "The Finals" gives players the choice to play however they want. So whether you're a tactical or aggressive player, you'll find weapons and equipment suited to your playstyle.
