Small Details You Missed In The Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Trailer

With the launch of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity coming on Nov. 20, Nintendo and developer Omega Force have been releasing trailers that tease more of the characters appearing in the hack-and-slash game set in The Legend of Zelda universe. The Oct. 13 trailer focuses on the Yiga Clan, the Sheikah splinter group that aligned itself with Calamity Ganon. It features Master Kohga, last seen hunting Link in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, in a dominant role. You'll want to take a much closer look at this short, 50-second video to see what else it reveals about the upcoming title.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity takes place 100 years before Breath of the Wild. This action-oriented game is expected to be more linear than Link's last outing, and will allow fans of the franchise to find out what led to the events in the earlier game. However, it's in a different mold than the action role-playing games it follows, which is why it's actually named as a sequel to the strategy-heavy Hyrule Warriors title from 2014 rather than The Legend of Zelda. Previous trailers have shown some gameplay, as well as the return of characters like Robbie and Pura as allies you can take into battle with you.

One thing you'll notice is that Master Kohga is fully voiced, with his "The stupendous chief of the Yiga Clan Master Kohga ... is gonna kill you all ... to death" line already stealing hearts. This marks a welcome change from the grunting the Yiga did in Breath of the Wild and fans seem to think the voice acting is very fitting. This could denote a much larger role — or even playability — for Kohga in the new game. Additionally, he looks pretty much the same as he did in Breath of the Wild, which is interesting considering he's 100 years older in that title. What could that mean in terms of the story?

You'll also note a new kind of Yiga soldier here, probably a much stronger one than the versions seen before with a higher rank — he even has two samurai blades. The Yiga didn't appear very much in Breath of the Wild, so the implication is that you'll learn more about them. The action in the trailer appears to take place in the Gatepost Town Ruins and within a forest setting of some kind, but no one seems certain about what exactly that means yet.

Still, some of the most interesting details emerge near the end of the trailer after the scene cuts away from Kohga. You see what looks like a new character with two Yiga Clan foot soldiers kneeling in front of him. The figure has his back to the viewer and is holding a spherical orb in his hand, striking a rather ominous note. A subsequent close-up of his face shows that he has the crest of the Gerudo on his cloak and a headpiece with an eye that looks like those found in Malice, the dark substance released by Calamity Ganon. In other words, all signs point to ties to Ganon, and he appears to be a leader of the Yiga as well.

Some commenters on the YouTube video have pointed out that the orb in the figure's hand resembles a corrupted Giant Ancient Core. Others speculate that this new character will be the one who resurrects Ganondorf and brings him back to human form. Interesting, but less likely theories suggest he might be a fortune teller, or a version of Agahnim, Vaati, or Yuga. What's clear is that gamers are going to be wondering who this mysterious, pale-skinned and dark-eyed individual is from now until the game comes out.

Whatever this hooded figure's actual role, this could be a huge reveal for the title. It's clear Nintendo is gearing up to give fans more of the backstory touched upon in Breath of the Wild. Also, it's not a stretch to believe that what happens in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will have major implications for Breath of the Wild 2.
