New Features Coming In Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Winter Update

Animal Crossing is known for its holiday events, and New Horizons is no exception. Starting Nov. 19, Animal Crossing: New Horizons' winter update will roll out to Switches everywhere. According to the official trailer, players have a number of features and treats to look forward to.

Scheduled for Nov. 26, Turkey Day brings harvest themed table settings, a cooking station in the town square, and everyone's favorite turkey chef, Franklin. There are green and orange pumpkins to forage, and you can help Franklin gather ingredients for a feast. As usual, there will be environmental changes as well, with the grass and leaves turning orange and stray leaves falling on the wind.

After Turkey Day it's time to gear up for Toy Day. Dec. 24 promises snow, a decorated town hall, light-up sculptures and pine trees, and the appearance of Jingle, the black nosed reindeer. You can help Jingle deliver presents to your villagers, make snowmen, and generally frolic in the snow that will blanket your island.

Other updates include new items you can redeem Nook Miles for: the Hip Reaction Collection and the Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles. The reactions include Sit Down, Wave Goodbye, Take a Picture, Sniff Sniff, Work Out, Yoga, Here You Go, Excited, and Ta-da. Meanwhile, the hairstyle pack offers a diverse range of hairdos, some of which mark overdue additions to the game.

The winter update will also introduce the option to upgrade your house storage. Instead of maxing out at 1,600, you can go all the way to 2,400 items. Finally, Nintendo is introducing the option to transfer save data. This will allow you to transfer your current New Horizons game from one Switch to another. You will need to download the Island Transfer Tool from the Nintendo eShop. From there, you can choose to transfer your entire island or a single resident.

The next Animal Crossing: New Horizons update is due for late January 2021, and judging by the artwork in the official video, players might be getting Pave to visit their islands. The flashy peacock used to do in New Leaf what Label does in New Horizons: judge your outfits until they're satisfied enough to build a shop in your town. But is Pave going to do the same job that they once did? Or is there a Carnival event in Animal Crossing's future? Looks like you'll have to wait until January to find out.
