How Long Does It Take To Beat Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity?

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is the follow up to 2014's Hyrule Warriors, which originally released on the Wii U. Instead of serving as a free-for-all, musou-style affair starring all your favorite Zelda characters, however, Age of Calamity looks to go a lot deeper on the story side of things. According to Nintendo, the game is set 100 years prior to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. As such, that means you'll get to see all of Breath of the Wild's Champions in fighting form, and you'll get to take part in the events that ultimately drove Hyrule into darkness.

All that said, It should be noted once more that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity isn't your typical Legend of Zelda title. This isn't a sprawling RPG with a huge open world. It may not scratch quite the same itch Breath of the Wild did for you. If you can't get enough Zelda, though, and you're planning on picking this game up, you may be wondering just how many hours you'll get to pour into it.

Here's your answer, based on some critical reviews that have come out thus far.

Age of Calamity's campaign is short, but it's not the end

Kotaku's Ash Parish wrote that she "completed the main story in nine hours." That's not terribly long by any stretch — especially when compared to the dozens of hours players put into Breath of the Wild. Parish went on, however, to state that she'd "clocked a total of 36 hours" in all, and still only managed to complete about a quarter of the game's various objectives. It sounds as though you could spend a lot of time with this game if you're a completionist.

Writing for GameSpot, Suriel Vazquez put a similar amount of time into the game. In the bio following his review, he noted that he spent roughly 30 hours "completing the campaign, most of the side missions, and some post-game quests." Judging by his use of "most" and "some" when talking about the side missions and quests, respectively, it seems his experience mostly lined up with Parish's. There's a lot of game left to play after the main campaign -— the question is, will you play it all?

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity comes out Nov. 20, 2020 on Nintendo Switch.
