This Is The Best-Selling Gamecube Game Of All Time

The Nintendo Gamecube stands tall alongside the greatest video game consoles of all time.

Not only did it give its owners a huge variety of third-party published releases, but it also gifted them a satisfying lineup of first-party titles from Nintendo's packed IP vault. Mario engaged in some more quality 3D platforming with Super Mario Sunshine, the majority of the Mushroom Kingdom competed in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and Samus Aran shot down alien baddies in the Metroid Prime series. Most of the games that were exclusive to the Gamecube at the time of its release are remembered for being extremely successful from a critical and financial standpoint.

There's one game within the Gamecube software library that holds the distinction of selling the most copies on the platform. And what's even crazier is that it's a game that's being played on a competitive level to this very day. If you're a member of the FGC (Fighting Game Community), you probably have a clue as to what that game is.

Super Smash Bros. Melee takes the honor of being the highest selling Gamecube release

The GameCube library is full of bonafide classics, but the game that topples them all in Nintendo's impressive history of sales is one of the greatest fighting games ever made, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Since its launch in 2001, the iconic franchise crossover brawler has sold over 7 million copies. The game still remains a focal point of the fighting game community and is still played at several premier tournaments. Some of the game's top players include Hungrybox, Zain, and Mang0.

A collection of other recognizable games from the Gamecube library also made the console's best-selling titles lineup. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! sold over 6 million copies, while The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker sold over 3 million copies. Then there are games like Animal Crossing (over 2 million sold), Mario Party 4 (2 million sold), and Metroid Prime (2 million sold) that also hold the honor of being some of the GameCube's top earners.
