Animal Crossing: New Leaf Update Introduces Amiibo Support And More

Amiibo support, new items, characters, games and more are coming to Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

The Animal Crossing: New Leaf Nintendo Direct stream offers a look at an update for the game that's available right now, adding in support for Amiibos, new mini games, and even the inclusion of some Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer concepts.

One of the newest features is Harvey's Campground, where you can visit any of the 50 new villagers that visit your town in their RVs via their Amiibo Cards. Once you visit the newcomers and check out their RVs, you can invite them to live in your town and become permanent members. Like "Harvey" says in the video, you could recruit a whole mess of cats or ducks for your town, if that's your aim.

Continuing with the Amiibo goodness, Nintendo has revealed that Amiibos from other franchises will be available for use in-game. This means you can plop Cece and Viche from Splatoon into your game, along with the Splatoon-specific items that they generate.

Another new feature is a currency called MEOW coupons, which you can spend at Harvey's Campground to purchase unique items that you won't find in town. MEOW stands for "Mutual Exchange of Wealth," and these coupons can be used to buy things from Harvey himself or any of the characters that roll up in their RVs.

Two new mini-games are also available via the in-game New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, and Wii U consoles. If you find these items, you can play the Animal Crossing Puzzle League and Desert Island Escape games, just in case you wanted to make Xzibit proud and play a video game while playing a video game.

Watch the Nintendo Direct video to check out what else the new updates to Animal Crossing: New Leaf have to offer and let's hope that a new Animal Crossing game is announced as a Nintendo Switch launch title soon.
