Somehow, Fans Went Too Far In Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is certainly not a game for the faint of heart. Aside from all of the shooting and the gory katana executions, there's a fair amount of sexual content present in Night City. Developer CD Projekt Red makes video games — the minds behind Cyberpunk aren't living in a convent, and thus aren't averse to including scenes and dialogue that would've been too scandalous for Cinemax in the '90s. There is a line for those working at the Warsaw-based studio, however, and the creators of one particular Cyberpunk 2077 mod apparently crossed it.

According to PC Gamer, a few naughty Cyberpunk modders got together and figured out a way for players to have sex with a character that can't be romanced: Johnny Silverhand. Silverhand is one of the most recognizable characters in Cyberpunk 2077, and that has a lot to do with the fact that he's played by Keanu Reeves. The mod worked by transplanting the Johnny Silverhand character model onto a sex robot in the game that is, no joke, called a "joytoy." As soon as the mod gained some traction in the Cyberpunk 2077 community, though, CD Projekt Red quickly stepped in to defend Johnny Silverhand's honor. The mod is now gone.

The studio provided a statement to PC Gamer that read, in part, "Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it can't be harmful towards others." The harm, CDPR claimed, could be claimed "by the people who lent us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters in Cyberpunk 2077." Given the action taken on the Johnny Silverhand romance mod, it seems CD Projekt Red was almost certainly making reference to Keanu Reeves in this instance. It's likely Reeves never agreed to have his likeness used in such a fashion. So even though Cyberpunk pushes a lot of very mature content onto players, and there are numerous romantic avenues to explore in Night City, one character in the game is seemingly off limits.

A quick check of the mod's webpage shows it has indeed been removed. This means those who haven't already downloaded it can no longer install it. With that said, it is rare that anything ever truly disappears from the internet. Perhaps the mod will resurface at some point in the future. For now, those hoping to make sweet cybernetic love to Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077 will have to use their imaginations.
