The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Release Date Announced

We said that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was going to blow everyone away in 2017, and its new trailer sure did—and the game isn't even out yet. Nintendo's latest gameplay trailer for Breath of the Wild during its 2017 Switch presentation puts Link in a very different, yet familiar, scenario: saving Hyrule and stopping Ganon. This new video featured all kinds of Hylian awesomeness, including some familiar faces and races if you've been keeping up with the series. Likewise, veteran LoZ players should recognize mainstay enemies, like the cycloptic Hinox, back on the prowl. It's tough to tell if everything we wanted is going to be crammed into this open world version of Hyrule, but based on this trailer we're off to a great start.

Nintendo also revealed there are multiple new amiibo figurines for the game in the works, including Link (Archer form), Link (Rider form) Zelda, a Bokoblin, and the Guardian (complete with its giant eye-laser thing). The previously released Legend of Zelda amiibo figurines will have their own in-game features to unlock. Wind Waker's Zelda will give you a random selection of plants to cook; Wind Waker's Toon Link will give you some random fish; 8-bit Link will give you barrels with rupees inside; Ocarina of Time's Link will give you random amounts of meat; and Twilight Princess' Wolf Link will actually unlock the four-legged version of the hero in-game to follow you around and help in battle.

The House of Mario also revealed a Master Edition of Breath of the Wild that'll leave you drooling like a Lickitung. This Master Edition comes with a Master Sword statue, a weather-worn tapestry map, a Switch handheld carrying case (with a Sheikah-style design), a 24-song-long soundtrack, a collectible Sheikah Eye coin, and (of course) the main game. While you don't have to clear any dungeons to unlock the Master Edition, you're going to have to shell out $129.99, which is a bit higher than the average Switch game price of $60. There's also going to be a Special Edition of Breath of the Wild available for $99.99, which includes everything in the Master Edition except the statue.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch alongside the Nintendo Switch console on March 3, 2017. While Link being there for the Switch's launch is a huge relief, those hoping for Mario will have to wait a little longer—months longer, actually.
