Halo: Combat Evolved Is Finally Getting Fixed

"Halo: Combat Evolved" is finally getting the graphical facelift it's needed for years, thanks to a new update coming to "Halo: The Master Chief Collection." The games' "decades-old janky PC visuals," as PC Gamer dubbed them, haven't been updated since the original 2003 PC port. That means if these ancient visuals were a person, they'd be old enough to vote — and they'd probably vote for a more modern look.

As explained by PC Gamer, Gearbox's "Halo" PC port was used as the "foundation" for the "Anniversary Edition" of "Halo," which is on the "Master Chief Collection." The new fixes are meant to make the PC version more closely resemble the beloved original Xbox release of "Combat Evolved." Of course, this is good news, especially considering the fact that "Halo: Combat Evolved" is still considered by fans to be one of the best Xbox launch titles of all time

That being said, "Halo" fans still have a lot of unfinished business on their minds these days. Namely, the delayed release of "Halo: Infinite" is keeping everyone on their toes, especially since it's expected to have a bunch of features players will love

Even so, fans are likely to relish the opportunity to once again play "Halo: Combat Evolved" the way it was intended. Some of the improvements coming to the game have already been detailed by 343 Industries.

So, will the "Halo: Combat Evolved" graphic updates be worth the long wait? Though the anticipated fixes aren't available to players yet, they're reportedly in testing and they sound pretty promising. A few highlights of the anticipated improvements include more robust textures, color-changing energy shields, fixes for transparency glitches, and more.

While only time will tell if the updates are successful or a flop, history has unfortunately given gamers a few reasons to worry. After all, the original 2014 launch of "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" was a total disaster, full of bugs on top of bugs. Since then, a lot of work has been put in to improve the collection, so the hope is that these updates for "Combat Evolved" will roll out without a hitch. As of now, there's no definitive date for when the update will be released, but much like the oft-delayed "Halo Infinite," Microsoft will be sure to let players know when it's ready.
