Supergirl Stands Up To Kal-El In Injustice 2 Story Trailer

Did you enjoy the squee-worthy musical crossover between The Flash and Supergirl? Good. Now get ready for something completely different. In NetherRealm Studios' latest peek at Injustice 2, the Maid of Might makes her first appearance in the grim and gritty Injustice universe. Despot Superman? Yeah, Kara's not having it.

The trailer begins with a cheery flashback to the destruction of Krypton, in which Kara and baby Superman rocket away from the exploding planet moments before their rockets diverge, sending them on very different paths. Years later, Supergirl picks up where her cousin left off, trying to establish the iconic S-shield as a symbol for hope—and not, as Superman would prefer, an authoritarian regime.

Oh, and did we mention the fighting? There's a some of that, too. Before delving into the specifics of the Superman-Supergirl rivalry, the "Shattered Alliances, Part 3" trailer depicts a brawl between Kara and Captain Marvel villain Black Adam, which doesn't seem to do much damage to either combatant but totals a number of ancient pyramids, assumedly causing the members of Egypt's tourism board some major headaches.

As a story trailer, the video doesn't do much to establish how Supergirl will actually play in the DC Comics-themed fighting game (Kara didn't appear in the first Injustice game, nor did she play a role in the spinoff comic), but given that NetherRealm seems to be releasing at least one new video a week, expect to learn a little bit more about Supergirl's in-game abilities very soon.

Injustice 2 comes out on May 16, and continues the story originally started in Injustice: Gods Among Us—a game that, despite its post-apocalyptic plot, is surprisingly tame when compared to some of DC Comics' most disturbing moments.
