Star Wars: Battlefront II Tie-In Novel Eyes July Release
The Empire holds no bars in the Star Wars: Battlefront II prequel book.
Gamers were undoubtedly excited to get their first look at Battlefront II during the annual Celebration event in Orlando, and though the game doesn't release until November, Star Wars fans can look forward to reading up on the chaos and conflict that's in store.
EA announced that the forthcoming novel Inferno Squad is now a tie-in to the upcoming action-shooter game, and is set for release on July 25. Inferno Squad was originally announced in February as a sequel novel to Rogue One, but it has now been reintroduced as a lead-up to Battlefront II.
Written by sci-fi and fantasy author Christie Golden, Inferno Squad takes place after the events of Rogue One and A New Hope. The novel will dive into the history of Iden Versio, the Imperial commander that sits at the center of Battlefront II's main campaign, and her crew members years before the game's story begins.
Golden's novel zeroes in on the Empire's special forces unit, the Inferno Squad, and serves to bridge the gap leading into Battlefront II. According to Golden, the book focuses on how the Inferno Squad met, how they rose to power, and how they "learned to become [a] well-oiled machine" (via IGN). Additionally, readers will learn how the Imperial unit infiltrated and investigated "the remains of Saw Gerrera's Partisans cell that we saw escape from Jedha in Rogue One."

"The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker. But the Empire has Inferno Squad. After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera's Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire—no matter what the cost. Now, Inferno Squad must prove their status as the best of the best and take down the Partisans from within. But as the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?"
Star Wars: Battlefront II releases for November 17 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and Inferno Squad hits shelves on July 25. While we wait to get our hands on both, check out what we need to see in the forthcoming game.
