Games With Gold May Lineup Is Full Of Star Wars

These days, it's all Star Wars, all the time.

Last weekend, the annual Star Wars Celebration resulted in a Death Star-sized info dump regarding The Last Jedi, Battlefront 2, and more. In just a few weeks, it's May 4, commonly known online as Star Wars Day (because "May the fourth" sounds like "May the Force." It's a pun. Get it?). And next month, the Xbox Live Games with Gold program is offering two Star Wars games for free: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

The Force Unleashed 2, which stars a clone of Darth Vader's secret apprentice, Starkiller, will be available to download from May 1 through May 15. Lego Star Wars, which retells the story of the first six Star Wars films (the game was released before The Force Awakens entered production, so it's not exactly "complete" any more), will be available from May 16 through May 31. While both games are Xbox 360 titles, they're backwards compatible with the Xbox One.

In addition to the Star Wars games, the crowdfunded indie platformer Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams will be downloadable for the entire month, while the Tomb Raider spinoff Lara Croft: The Temple of Osiris will be free from May 16 through June 15. Both of those titles are native to the Xbox One.

Entry into the Games with Gold program, which gives members two or more games for free each month, is included as part of every Xbox Live Gold subscription. Anyone who has an active Xbox Live membership can download that month's Games with Gold titles, and unlike the free games offered as part of Sony's PlayStation Plus membership, once the games are downloaded they're yours to keep forever.

All-in-all, it's a pretty good deal, especially for Star Wars fans. The Force Unleashed 2 wasn't quite as well received as its predecessor, which is one of the best Star Wars games around. But for free, it's certainly worth a peek.
