Joker Comes Out To Play In Leaked Injustice 2 Trailer

Tomorrow, yet another character joins Injustice 2's massive roster, and according to a leaked trailer, it's a big one. The Joker, the self-proclaimed Crown Prince of Crime, will be Injustice 2's 28th announced character.

The version of the Joker shown in the trailer, which has since been taken offline, looks like a mix between the The Killing Joke's edition of Batman's arch-nemesis and Jared Leto's interpretation from the 2016 Suicide Squad feature film. A brief video showing some of the Joker's moves also appeared online but probably won't last long, so check it out while you still can.

Judging by the video (which ends with a Flash victory), the Joker wields a nasty-looking knife and relies primarily on short-range melee attacks. Other, more advanced special moves don't make an appearance.

In addition, the Joker's name pops up a handful of times in the Injustice 2's leaked list of achievements. In one, Harley Quinn must defeat her former beau with her special move, "Go Night Night." In order to earn another, Joker must finish off Batman with his "Not So Funny Is It?" attack.

Injustice 2 picks up where Injustice: Gods Among Us left off, fusing Mortal Kombat-like combat with a dark alternate future based on classic DC Comics. The entire Injustice saga, which is fleshed out in a well-received series of digital comics, kicks off when Superman murders the Joker after the villain tricks the Man of Steel into killing Lois Lane. How the Joker is alive, well, and fighting in Injustice 2 remains to be seen, but given Injustice's comic book roots, a resurrection or some alternate dimension-related shenanigans seem pretty likely.

How will Injustice 2's take on the Joker stack up against the best (and worst) versions of the character? We'll find out on May 16, 2017, when the game hits both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
