Elden Ring: Where To Find The Moonveil Katana And The Build You'll Need To Use It

Part of what makes "Elden Ring" so enjoyable is the absolutely insane amount of different weapons the game has to offer. Some of the more unique options include the Jar Cannon, which is essentially just a large cannon that players can strap to their arm and use to fire off bombs, and the Sword of Night and Flame, which allows players to create massive fiery infernos and powerful beams of sorcery whenever they swing the sword. Another one of these unique weapons is Moonveil, a special katana that also happens to be one of the best weapons in the entire game.

Part of what makes Moonveil so strong is the fact that it deals both Magical and Physical damage, while also applying the Bleed status effect with every hit. In addition, its Weapon Skill (Transient Moonlight) allows players to unleash magical slashes that deal insane damage and travel far enough to make the weapon viable from both close and long-range. Of course, the first step to using this excellent weapon is finding it – though luckily players can get their hands on this sword very early on in the game.

Moonveil can be found in a dungeon in East Limgrave

To acquire Moonveil, players will have to make their way over to Gael Tunnel, a dungeon located at the border of Limgrave and Caelid. Make your way through the dungeon until you reach its boss, a massive fire-spewing beast known as the Magma Wyrm. The Magma Wyrm is weak to magic damage, so we recommend using either spells or a magic-infused weapon to take it down. Once defeated, the boss will drop a dragon heart and the Moonveil katana, though you'll have to make sure you have the correct stats to wield it. Specifically, you'll need 12 STR, 18 DEX, and 23 INT.

The optimal build for using Moonveil will involve putting a lot of points into DEX and INT, since the weapon gains a B scaling rating for both stats once you've upgraded it to +10. You can upgrade Moonveil with the use of Somber Smithing Stones, which are rarer than regular smithing stones and are used almost exclusively on special or rare weapons. Transient Moonlight is easily the weapon's most powerful attack, but since it costs so much FP to use, we recommend equipping the Carian Filigreed Crest, a Talisman which reduces the FP cost for weapon skills. Other than that, the rest of the build can be whatever the player would like – as no matter what you choose, Moonveil is certain to melt bosses and enemies alike with relative ease.
