The Iconic Video Game Character You Likely Forgot Ray Liotta Voiced
Ray Liotta was an immeasurable talent. He's perhaps best known for his work in "Goodfellas," but he amassed an eclectic collection of roles over the years to show his intense range and capability to portray an assortment of (often psychopathic) characters. He still worked regularly, making it even more of a shock to hear that the talented actor passed away at the age of 67.
To pay respect for all that Liotta accomplished throughout his career, it's the perfect time to look back on his career and all of the roles that made him the icon he became. It's a good day to go back and watch some of his other parts in the likes of "Field of Dreams," "Operation Dumbo Drop," and "Narc," to name a few. However, he's had so many roles over the years, it's easy to overlook a few, and some of his fans may have never realized that Liotta got into the video game business for a while, lending his legendary voice to one killer video game character.
Ray Liotta voiced Tommy Vercetti in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Ray Liotta made a name for himself playing gangsters and those who partake in the criminal underworld. Even later in his filmography, he often played characters with shady sides, so a trip to Vice City certainly wasn't out of the question for the actor. Gamers will undoubtedly recognize Liotta's deep, gruff voice from his turn as Tommy Vercetti in 2002's "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City."
After doing a stint in prison, Tommy Vercetti heads to Vice City to partake in a significant drug deal. However, as expected in these games, things quickly go sideways, and Tommy sets out on a mission to find the one responsible for making the deal go topsy-turvy. He steals and kills his way through the criminal underworld, and by the end of the game, he's established the Vercetti Crime Family, his very own criminal empire.
By the sound of it, Liotta enjoyed his time in the video game realm. He appeared on Conan O'Brien's show back when "Vice City" first came out, and he said of the experience, "It was fun. You know, you just sitting there cursing at people. It was fun to do." Cursing at people is what Liotta did best throughout his career, and it's good to know gamers can continue to enjoy the actor's talents by going back to play this classic addition to the "GTA" franchise.
