Is God Of War Ragnarok Coming To PS4?

Fans have been waiting for what feels like ages for the next entry in the "God of War" timeline. Known for its chaotic combat and epic boss fights, the series saw drastic changes with 2018 "God of War" for PS4. Once released, "God of War" became PS4's fastest-selling exclusive and review roundups made it clear critics were pleased as well. However, players hungered for more.

In a frenzy for information, the internet at large began looking for any hint towards the next installment, with the sequel's official announcement in 2020 being the greatest news for fans. Since then, "God of War Ragnarok" has weathered some delays, but has also wowed fans with the first looks at gameplay. Finally, Sony has officially confirmed the for a November launch alongside the new "Father and Son" trailer, which has significantly teased the direction of the sequel. With a release for the Sony exclusive finally in sight, and with preorders for the game's multiple editions opening on July 15, 2022, fans likely have one question on their mind: Will "God of War Ragnarok" be available on a platform they own?

God of War Ragnarok will be available on PS5 and PS4

As a likely poster child for the PlayStation 5 and its potential power, there was never any question as to whether "God of War Ragnarok" would release on Sony's latest console — but what about those who are still primarily playing games on PlayStation 4? It's no secret that it can be hard to find a PS5, and while things aren't as bad as the early days of PS5's release, it's hard to argue that the systems still aren't readily available in all regions. With the "God of War" sequel exciting more people than "Halo Infinite" prior to release, there will almost certainly be more demand for PS5s than there are consoles available.

Thankfully, it's now known that "God of War Ragnarok" will release on PS4 alongside its PS5 counterpart (per PlayStation.blog), so if fans aren't able to get their hands on Sony's newest console, they'll still be able to enjoy Kratos' latest outing. To that same point, there will be an option for those who own the PS4 version of "God of War Ragnarok" to upgrade to the PS5 version when they do get the latest console. While many titles releasing on both PS4 and PS5 offered these kinds of upgrades to players for free in the past, Sony President Jim Ryan previously confirmed that it would run players $10 going forward.
