Hogwarts Legacy Just Got Banned. Here's Where.

“Hogwarts Legacy” was a controversial game well before the title made its way onto store shelves. It received polarizing reviews from critics and fans alike, many of whom were unable to look past the contentious issues surrounding the game's roots. One group that will not be giving “Hogwarts Legacy” any added exposure is charity organization Games Done Quick (GDQ).
GDQ is a series of speedrunning marathons in which players unite from all over the world to beat their favorite games as fast as possible to raise money for charity. Since 2010, GDQ has raised millions of dollars for organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. GDQ has banned all “Harry Potter” games from its future events.
“Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling has been under fire for her controversial statements about transgender people. Although she wasn’t involved with the development of “Legacy,” the IP has been tainted for many. It’s unclear if GDQ banned the game as a stance against Rowling or to avoid flak from fans for featuring it, but the move has garnered GDQ a lot of attention.
