God of War Ragnarok
“God of War Ragnarok” expands on the story and mechanics of 2018’s “God of War,” the game that single handedly revived the franchise. “Ragnarok” pushes the grand scale and emotional weight of the series even further, all while offering up exciting combat — boss battles are truly epic — and the ability to modify Kratos’ powers.
Kirby
The “Kirby” franchise is known for its 2D action platformers featuring the titular main character, but “Kirby and the Forgotten Lands” breaks the mold by dropping Kirby into a 3D world. The game adds more depth to the “Kirby” formula while also introducing a new mechanic that allows Kirby to transform into various objects to complete the levels.
Cuphead DLC
Although an expansion and not a full game, “Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course” finishes off one of the best indie games ever made with a bang. Featuring an island with 12 new bosses and Ms. Chalice as a playable character, “The Delicious Last Course” includes beautiful animation and opponents that make the Devil fight look like a cake walk.
Xenoblade 3
Monolith Soft’s “Xenoblade Chronicles 3” iterates on the “Xenoblade” formula by allowing players to switch characters between classes, giving them the freedom to experiment however they like. Along with its robust JRPG mechanics, the game features a well-written story and over 100 hours worth of content for players to sink their teeth into.
Forbidden West
Continuing the story of “Horizon Zero Dawn,” “Horizon Forbidden West” improves nearly every aspect of the first game with new weapons, enemies, mounts, and more. The game takes the player from sprawling deserts to breathtaking beaches that are full of things to do, people to meet, and scenery to take in.
