The Tragic Death of Pokémon Voice Actor Billy Kametz
By CADE DAVIE
Voice actor Billy Kametz, known for his roles as Ren in "Pokémon," Josuke Higashikata in "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure," and Ferdinand von Aegir in "Fire Emblem," has died at age 35 of stage 4 colon cancer. The sad news was shared by A. Jinnie McManus on a GoFundMe page created to support Kametz during his cancer treatment.
In the post, McManus included a brief summary of Kametz’s life and work and his official obituary, part of which read, "Anyone who has met Billy will tell you he is one of the most sincere, humble and loving people they have ever met. His infectious personality and smile always lit up a room with so much joy and happiness."
Kametz kept his positivity throughout his disease, even uploading a video on April 26, 2022, to his YouTube channel in which he maintained an upbeat and optimistic tone while sharing his harrowing health conditions. "I'm staying really positive, and that's the biggest reason that I wanted to make this video," Kametz said.
In the final part of McManus' post, she provided a link for those who are able and willing to make a contribution in Kametz’s name to the Colon Cancer Coalition. On June 24, 2022, "Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes" will launch on the Nintendo Switch and Kametz’s work as Ferdinand von Aegir will act as his final contribution to voice acting.
