THINGS ONLY ADULTS NOTICE ABOUT PRINCESS PEACH
By NATHAN SIMMONS AND MARY OSBORNE
Peach's Parents
Princess Peach has never been upgraded to Queen Toadstool, so at least one of her parents must still be alive and well. However, King Toadstool never appears in “Super Mario Bros.,” and his wife is an even bigger enigma — it seems like Peach has been left to run the Mushroom Kingdom on her own.
Bottle Blonde
Princess Peach has had a few makeovers since she became the subject of Mario's affections all those years ago. In addition to a frequently changing wardrobe, her hair color has gone from vibrant red in the original “Super Mario Bros.” to a brunette in “Super Mario Bros. 2” and finally to bright or sandy blonde.
Friend-zoned
When Nintendo produced a series of clips in which Mario answered questions from fans, one asked what Mario enjoyed most about adventuring with his friends. In a moment that gave fans pause, Mario replied by listing some of his closest associates and specifically referred to Princess Peach as a friend.
Isn’t Threatened
Peach and Pauline share a few scenes together in “Odyssey,” and even though the pair never directly interact through dialogue, they can be seen hanging out together in a postcard toward the end of the game. This could mean that Peach is unbothered by the fact that Pauline is Mario’s ex.
Independence
Peach got her own game on the Nintendo DS, “Super Princess Peach,” in which she had to rescue the Mario Bros. instead of Mario setting out to save Peach from Bowser. “Super Mario Odyssey” also has Peach take a solo trip around the world, as she travels on her own without needing anyone to help her.
