Fallout Fans Aren't Holding Back On Amazon's TV Series Trailer

Amazon has finally dropped the first trailer for its long-awaited "Fallout" TV series, and fans are already blown away by how accurate it is to the games. Developed by "Westworld" co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, "Fallout" stars Ella Purnell, Kyle MacLachlan, and Walton Goggins in a story that is set within the same canon as the popular video game series. According to the trailer listing, the story is as follows: "200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them." In other words, typical "Fallout" shenanigans.

The trailer offers a good first look at the Bethesda's post-apocalyptic world in live-action, offering brief introductions to its characters and showing off some of the monsters and weaponry populating the series. We even get a few glimpses of the world before the bombs fell, with Goggins appearing briefly out of his ghoulish makeup in an apparent flashback scene. All in all, the show appears to a faithful take on the source material, packing in the Brotherhood of Steel, mutated bears, a Mister Handy robot, and some wild gallows humor into just a couple of minutes of screentime. After having their faces melted by this first teaser, fans have taken to social media to express their excitement and curiosity towards the upcoming series.

Fallout looks like a blast

The "Fallout" trailer has received a rapturous response thus far, with people who aren't even interested in the games saying that it made them want to play the series for the first time. Meanwhile, hardcore "Fallout" appear to be over the moon. YouTuber Jimmy Champane — a self-professed "Fallout" devotee — wrote on X, "I've been really careful not to let myself get excited for the Fallout show ... This trailer is f***ing incredible. I can't wait to watch this." Video game streamer/YouTuber GoldGloveTV likewise remarked, "I think we're finally in the good video game adaptation era."

Some fans are pointing out some of the smaller reveals in the trailer, as well. Since the show is canonical to the game timeline, it means that horses and more working cars may still exist in the series' far future. Others have noted that the fictional Super Duper Mart chain seems to have made its way to other parts of the country, opening up the world of "Fallout" a bit more than we've seen in the past.

The humor in the trailer has received a somewhat mixed response, though. While a number of commenters have gotten a kick out of a reference to Amazon's "free 2-day shipping" in the trailer, others are less enthused by the jokes involving a cyclops character. Still, it seems if you like your humor weird and dark, Amazon's "Fallout" will offer similar laughs to those found in the games. Bloody Disgusting's John Squires summed it up by saying, "Looks like they really captured the uniquely wacky world of Fallout here ... Getting James Gunn vibes from this trailer overall, and those are good vibes to get."
