Fortnite Tweet Hints At New Avengers-Related Event

Marvel fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Avengers: Endgame on Friday, but those who play Fortnite have something else to look forward to, as well. A tweet from the official Fortnite Twitter account is teasing an Avengers crossover event for the game, showing a female character holding Captain America's shield along with the tagline, "Whatever it takes."

As we reported earlier this month, evidence uncovered by dataminers appeared to suggest that last year's event — which starred Thanos and his Infinity Gauntlet — could be making a return. But the inclusion of Captain America's shield in the Fortnite tweet has us thinking (or maybe dreaming) a little bigger now. Avengers: Endgame is being set up as the culmination of Marvel's efforts thus far with its cinematic universe. How appropriate would it be, then, to set the entirety of that cinematic universe loose inside Fortnite?

Not just Thanos, and not just the Infinity Gauntlet. But Captain America and his shield. Iron Man and his suit. Thor and his hammer. The Hulk and his... hulkiness. Toss abilities all over the map, let players transform into their favorite Marvel characters, and watch all hell break loose. That would be a fitting way to represent Avengers: Endgame inside Fortnite.

Of course, the above is a little mix of speculation and wishful thinking. It's entirely possible we could just see a reboot of last year's Infinity Gauntlet mode, and the Captain America shield points to some of the cosmetic loot players will be able to acquire during the event. Not that we don't welcome that, too. Thor's hammer as a pickaxe? Sign us up.

Fortunately, we don't have to wait too long for the Fortnite Avengers event. According to the tweet, the crossover kicks off on April 25. Perhaps Epic will see fit to tell us what's coming in the next couple of days. Or maybe we'll be completely in the dark until the moment it arrives.

Whatever the case, we'll be ready to log in and check it out on Thursday.
