Super Mario Maker 2 Caps Players At 32 Course Uploads

Super Mario Maker 2 officially launched today on Nintendo Switch, and according to most reviews, it's a fine follow-up to the original Mario Maker on Wii U and 3DS. There is this one thing that's really irking players who are picking up this Mario Maker sequel, however, and it has to do with the number of courses you can share.

Nintendo Life reports that Super Mario Maker 2 has a hard cap on the number of masterpieces any one player can upload and share with the world, holding everyone to just 32 in total. This has some of the first Super Mario Maker's more prolific creators upset, as they were eventually able to level themselves to the point of having 100 upload slots available to them.

On the other side of the coin, though, players just starting out in Super Mario Maker could only upload 10 courses before hitting the cap. It was only by having other players like their creations that they'd unlock the ability to share more. So it's entirely possible this change benefits more people than it hurts, though one could argue that we'll have far fewer quality courses as a result, since the best builders are being throttled by the limit.

We'll have to see how it all plays out. Should the uproar become something Nintendo can't ignore, it seems like the course limit is something the company could fix with an update. There could be some storage concerns behind the move, as well. The Nintendo Switch has already outsold the Wii U just two years into its life, and there are likely going to be far more players in Super Mario Maker 2 than there were in the first. In that case, Nintendo might be hesitant to raise the limit.

In the meantime, we'll be checking out Super Mario Maker 2 for ourselves, playing through the game's new story mode as well as all of your wonderful course creations. If we come across more news about the game, we'll be sure to share it with you.
