Modders Jokingly Add Bethesda.net Login To Skyrim

Last Friday, three classic Doom games were ported over to current-gen consoles. The announcement seemed to go over well, until players actually got their hands on the titles and realized they included a mandatory Bethesda.net login. Even worse: those trying to login faced a number of issues.

Bethesda has since backtracked and promised to make the login optional, but not before some Skyrim modders were able to have a little fun at the company's expense.

It's called the 'Immersive Bethesda.net Experience' mod, and according to PCGamesN, it accomplishes one hilarious task: replicating the Bethesda.net login that angered so many Doom fans this past weekend. Players can reportedly install the mod and treat themselves to the frustration felt by Doom owners, this time inside Bethesda's popular 2011 RPG. Simply install the mod, start up the game, and a few second into Skyrim's main story, you'll be greeted with a message that states, "A Bethesda.net account is required to play this title. Please connect to the internet to continue."

Should you try to follow the instructions, however, the login won't work. The message will continue to pop up until the game seemingly gives up. And at that point, you'll be booted out to Skyrim's main menu.

Seeing as Bethesda still hasn't patched the classic Doom titles yet, this joke might hit a little too close to home for those who purchased the games. But if you've been wondering what all the fuss was about with the Bethesda.net login over the weekend, this Skyrim mod definitely offer a way to experience what Doom fans did, but in another Bethesda product.

We hope Bethesda takes better care to ensure its servers are functioning properly next time. Either that, or we hope the company makes the Bethesda.net login optional in future games. You can only snatch defeat from the jaws of victory so many times, and Bethesda has been doing it quite a bit lately.
