With three Vampire: The Masquerade games in the works from three different studios, it seems like fangs are back in style.
Developer Draw Distance has shared the first mechanics and plot details about their upcoming adventure game Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York. This news arrives alongside some pre-alpha screenshots.
Coteries of New York centers on the ongoing conflict between the traditionalist Camarilla and the independent Anarchs. You take on the role of a fledgling vampire, forced to learn the rules of the Kindred after your sire abandons you. When an older vampire takes you under their wing, you find yourself at the center of the brutal power struggle between the Camarilla and the Anarchs. You'll make friends and enemies along the way, all while trying to quell the ravenous Beast inside you.
Draw Distance promises branching narratives, reactivity, mature themes, and challenging dilemmas that draw on the strengths of the title's source material. "Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York is intended as the perfect entry point to the World of Darkness for players who may be new to the brand, but it will hold appeal for passionate fans of this setting as well," said the developer in today's press release. "Our cast of characters and the plot we tell will take their place within the official lore of Vampire: The Masquerade."
Though primarily text-driven and story-centered, your character will have three main stats that evolve based on your choices. Hunger tracks your character's insatiable need for blood, which rises the longer you longer you go without meals. Ignoring this need can lead to devastating consequences. Humanity measures your morality and how connected you remain to your human roots, modifying quest outcomes and altering your available story choices. Finally, your Masquerade rating tracks how well you blend in with mortal society, which seems to have something to do with evading the notice of vampire hunters.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York comes to Linux, Mac, Windows, and Nintendo Switch in Q4 2019.
