How Long Does It Take To Beat Monster Hunter World: Iceborne?

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is, by all accounts, an expansion to MHW in the same way that adding a second floor is an expansion onto a house. It's not just some additional content; it's basically a whole new game tacked onto the original, which means you'll be playing Iceborne for quite a while.

But how long is a while, exactly? How long does it take to beat Monster Hunter World: Iceborne? Now that the expansion's review embargo is up, we're starting to get a sense of how much time one could spend running through Iceborne's new campaign. But the numbers aren't what you'd call consistent.

Over at Kotaku, that site's reviewer spent about 20 hours on the Iceborne campaign. Twinfinite's critic pegged a story completion time at around 30 hours. And IGN appears to have spent the longest getting from start to finish in Iceborne, stating that the campaign took roughly 40 hours. That's a wide, wide window if you're someone who's just trying to get a solid idea of how long Iceborne's story will take to beat. But a lot of that has to do with how familiar someone is with Monster Hunter: World, and how much time they spend on the golden path versus tackling other objectives.

Your best bet might be to go with the average of the three, which is 30 hours. That should cover you if you're not completely brand new to MHW and you want to do some side stuff in addition to playing the new campaign straight through. We'll get a better idea about how long the campaign will take when more people get their hands on the expansion this Friday. But for now, early reviews are our only source of information on the length of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's campaign.

The good news is, it sounds like there is plenty of game in the Iceborne expansion for those who love Monster Hunter: World. That should make its $39.99 price tag easier to swallow.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Sept. 6, 2019.
