Surviving The Aftermath Announced As Next Title In Surviving Series

Surviving Mars, the martian-flavored city building simulator from Haemimont Games and Paradox Interactive, has evolved into a series with the second title slated for release next year. Paradox unveiled the follow-up, Surviving the Aftermath, via a brief teaser trailer.

In Surviving Mars, you stake your claim on the Red Planet by teaming up with a space agency to create the first functional human colony in the area. The game tasks you with constructing domes and infrastructure and researching new buildings and technology, all while doing your best to keep the colonists alive and explore the mysteries that Mars has to offer. The individually simulated colonists each come with their own unique traits, strengths, and weaknesses, affecting the evolution of your community.

Paradox has revealed little about Surviving the Aftermath; however, the name and style choices of the trailer imply that it will unfold in a post-apocalyptic setting. Such an environment would produce similar challenges to those faced in Surviving Mars, such as limited space and resources in a hostile and largely uninhabitable territory. The time period and type of apocalypse you'll have to contend with remain up in the air but the meteor showers shown in the brief clip imply that the story could be inspired by the dino-killing asteroid that struck earth millions of years ago.

"With the staggering growth of Surviving Mars this year we knew we had something special and we wanted to find new ways to utilize survival management gameplay," said lead producer Nikhat Ali. "Surviving the Aftermath gives us the opportunity to experiment with these mechanics in new and interesting ways that we think our players will love."

Surviving the Aftermath will hit the Epic Games Store, Steam, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in late 2020. If you'd like to get your hands on the game while still in development, you can check it out via Early Access in the Epic Games Store or Xbox Game Preview sometime in the next few months. Paradox has promised to share more information at the PDXCON 2019 Announcement Show on October 19 at 10:00 a.m. CEST.
