Pokemon Go's Latest Event Focuses On Evolution Items

Ever since Pokemon Go blew up in 2016, Niantic has been steadily supporting it with a stream of updates and new events to keep trainers engaged. Now Niantic has announced the newest community shindig coming to its augmented reality game: The Evolution Event. It focuses focuses specifically on unique evolutions, which means you'll more easily find Pokemon that evolve in odd ways during this event.

When we say unique evolutions, we mean Pokemon that have historically needed some extra oomph to evolve. Pokemon that need to hold items, like Onyx and Machop, fall under this category, as well as Pokemon that require the use of specific items, like Roselia and Eevee. Additionally, you'll find those sorts of Pokemon in raids more often, including Lickitung, Scyther, Togetic, and Ralts.

If you like hatching eggs, then it's worth knowing that, during this event, Tyrogue, Feebas, Burmy, Happiny, and others are possible to find by hatching a 2-km egg. Lucky trainers also have a higher chance of finding a shiny variant of Burmy. If you're trying to get your own unique evolution Pokemon, the event-specific Field Research tasks will offer some Evolution items. Raids will also offer more Evolution items. These can help you get that Steelix or Slowking you might be looking for, among others.

During the event, Pokemon Go players will find they earn double the XP when they evolve Pokemon, and Lure Modules will last twice as long as usual. Additionally, Saturday, Dec. 7 will be the Raid Day for the event. This means from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time, you'll receive more raid passes, allowing you to raid to your heart's content. You'll even find the first generation starter Pokemon in these raids, if you needed more of a reason to join the fun.

The Evolution Event in Pokemon Go starts today at 1 p.m. PT, and runs until Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. PT.
