Dreams Spices Up Valentine's Day With A February Release Date

Last week, Media Molecule ended the Early Access period for Dreams, its weird video game that also makes games. Luckily, we won't have to wait long to see the title hit storefronts worldwide: Dreams officially launches on Feb. 14, 2020. It's the perfect time to build some games with that special someone.

The full release will include all sorts of general improvements based on feedback from the Early Access experience. Media Molecule has revamped the entire introductory sequence of Dreams, including a bunch of new tutorials to ease new players into the game's mechanics. Certain tools have been improved as well.

The biggest addition might be Media Molecule's own feature-length game within Dreams. Called Art's Dream, this in-game title acts as a sort of highlight reel of all the cool stuff you can create. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, it will span multiple genres and showcase some original characters. It will also show the developers' "love of music in a big way," which could really mean anything, considering how crazy Dreams can be.

If you're unfamiliar, Dreams allows players to build games. It's a simple concept, but the title actually offers a surprisingly robust engine. Just looking at the trailer from the State of Play, you'll see no shortage of off-the-wall, unexpected gameplay. Every new game shown in the trailer feels like it's a brand new title, but really, all of them stem from one piece of software: Dreams.

If you already own the Early Access version of Dreams, you won't need to worry about purchasing a new copy of the game. Your version will automatically be upgraded to the full release come Feb. 14. If you don't already have the Early Access version, it's unfortunately too late to purchase it. You'll need to wait until it launches to play it.
