Rockstar Games Releases Official Response To GTA 6 Leaks

By now, every gaming enthusiast who has been paying attention to the events surrounding the upcoming video game juggernaut "Grant Theft Auto VI" has probably heard whispers about the latest leaks. The "GTA 6" gameplay leaker gave Rockstar Games three demands about video game monetization, which is not the first time Rockstar has encountered the issue of fans being angry at the way the studio does business. Indeed, in June, the announcement of the "GTA 6" physical edition left fans furious when it transpired it would merely contain a download code in a physical container rather than a disk.

Now, Rockstar has issued a lengthy official response to the most recent leaks on X (previously known as Twitter). "It would be an understatement to say that having videos of 'Grand Theft Auto VI' gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time," part of it reads. "We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has — from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know."

The message goes on to hype up the upcoming "GTA 6" extended look on Netflix on August 27, 2026, and to remind the fans that despite the disappointing leaks, the game will still drop this year on November 19. Rockstar has also extended a hand to the video game community for its support. "We want to thank everyone in the community who has reached out with messages of support this past week — your words have meant more to this team than you can imagine," the statement adds. "Ultimately, we are making this game for you, and without you, we would not have the privilege of making games."

This is far from the only time Rockstar has dealt with leak issues regarding the upcoming game. For instance, earlier this year, a "GTA 6" leak had fans completely split when alleged footage from 2022 (which later turned out to be a hoax) made its way to Instagram. With Rockstar responding to the latest leak with such passion, the hoax issue isn't really on the table this time — but with the amount of work the studio has poured into the game, it's easy to believe that its creatives' feelings about the leak are exactly as glum as the statement says.
