Rockstar Games is bringing a host of innovations, fresh features, and game-changing mechanics to "Grand Theft Auto 6" when it releases on November 19. From some of the most realistic graphics ever seen in a video game to its groundbreaking level of detail, there's a reason why analysts predict "GTA 6" will be the biggest game of all time. However, one of the biggest changes to the game may have nothing to do with its staggering visuals. Instead, it comes from another classic "Grand Theft Auto" feature: the radio system.

From the beginning of the "GTA" franchise, cars have featured radios that play different music when you're driving. A common complaint among fans, though, has been that there's no way to continue playing the radio after you exit a vehicle. All of the unique and rhythmic tunes that were available in "GTA 5" and every game before it were simply not playable outside the comforts of a car. Well, it appears Rockstar Game has listened to the feedback, as "GTA 6" is solving this major issue and making even more changes to the radio system.

GTA 6 lets you take your music with you on the go

Later "GTA" games allowed you to flip through various radio stations that featured different types of music, but once you opened a car door, the tunes always stopped. Over the past decade, "GTA 5" players have pleaded with Rockstar Games to expand the radio system so that they could listen to music while roaming the world on foot, but to no avail.

Fortunately, it looks like Rockstar was saving that particular feature for "GTA 6." The developer revealed that players will be able to listen to every radio station available in Leonida as well as podcasts while running around the world, outside of a car. This is all done through headphones that you can plug into your trusty smartphone, and the feature extends to both Jason and Lucia, so it doesn't matter which protagonist you're controlling. Also, Rockstar confirms you can continue listening even during a gunfight with enemies as long as your headphones stay in your ears.

It's unclear exactly when this feature becomes available during the story, but given how long of a game "GTA 6" is confirmed to be, players should have dozens of hours to listen to music and podcasts. Rockstar has also publicly collaborated with Spotify, and there are rumors claiming players will be able to import custom music playlists right into "GTA 6." This remains unconfirmed, but it could loom large for players looking to jam to their own music wherever and whenever.

The innovation doesn't stop there, though, as "GTA 6" is also set to correct one of the largest annoyances from "GTA 5" as well. In Los Santos, whenever you would exit and then re-enter a vehicle, the radio station that comes on in the vehicle would be totally random. However, in "GTA 6," the game remembers what radio station you were last listening to, and keeps that station on the next time you listen to music. This applies to vehicles as well as radios that you can turn on throughout the world.

What type of radio stations will be available in GTA 6?

It's nice that you can finally listen to music wherever the wind takes you in Leonida, but you'll also need to know what kind of music you can flip through. There are likely to be over a dozen radio stations in "GTA 6," including an original soundtrack, but Rockstar has confirmed several up to this point. World-famous artists like Bad Bunny, Black Sabbath, Morgan Wallen, Charli xcx, and others will have songs playing on radio stations, and even host some of those stations themselves as fictional NPCs.

We'll have to wait for the launch of "GTA 6" to see every available radio station, but here are the ones that Rockstar has confirmed so far:

  • Cocoteo FM – Playing modern Latin music and hosted by Bad Bunny and RaiNao

  • Back Country Radio – Playing a mix of classic and modern country music, hosted by Morgan Wallen and Lana Del Rey, with appearances from Jeremy Dufrene as an outside reporter

  • AfroBank FM – Playing African music and hosted by Burna Boy and Palms Trax

  • The Chamber 106.6 – Playing heavy metal music from the 1980s to modern day and hosted by Kerry King and Tom Araya

  • Flash FM – A classic Vice City radio station that plays pop music and is hosted by Robyn and Alex Consani

  • Dirty South Classics – Playing regional hip-hop and rap music and hosted by Trick Daddy and Trina

There are bound to be more stations playing a larger variety of music and featuring additional celebrity guests voicing fictional radio DJs. Right now, though, this is the confirmed list of stations and hosts straight from Rockstar, so we'll have to wait and see what "GTA 6" has in store with its revamped radio system when it launches on Nov. 19, 2026.
