The Xbox Series S Easter Egg You Probably Missed

The Xbox Series X and Series S are finally here, but sadly, one significant member of the Xbox family is absent. Halo Infinite has been delayed until sometime in 2021. Though Master Chief won't be able to make it to the launch party in person, it seems as though he'll be with you in spirit. You'll simply have to look deep inside your Xbox Series S.

A small Spartan helmet icon is emblazoned on the corner of the system's internal power supply. This nod to Xbox's flagship series can only be seen if you open up your console, but fortunately, Microsoft released an image back in September revealing The Series S' construction.

It's not immediately apparent from the breakdown photo, and the helmet is rather small and somewhat obscured by a shadow, but that doesn't mean it went by completely unnoticed. The folks over at ComicBook spotted the helmet days after the image was released, and now it looks as though other outlets are catching up.

Since the new consoles are arriving in consumers' homes, it makes sense that this Easter egg has resurfaced. A user on Reddit posted a close-up picture of the internal power supply (courtesy of Modern Vintage Gamer), bringing it into full view for everyone to see. With that, the Easter egg was once again in the spotlight.

Does this make up for the lack of a Halo title at launch? Will new Series S owners be tempted to rip open their consoles just to get a sense that Master Chief is there for the maiden voyage? Sadly, while this small detail is a nice, fun gesture, it appears to only add insult to injury for those heartbroken over the Halo Infinite delay. In a thread on Reddit, several users expressed their disappointment over the fact that they won't have a new Halo game to play this year.

Sadly, this Easter egg can be seen as a reminder of what gamers could have had while diving into their Series X or Series S. In the meantime, there are plenty of other great games reminiscent of Halo that you can get your hands on to hold you over. If those aren't enough, you can always dive into Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which will be receiving a next-gen upgrade for the Xbox Series X and Series S. The next-gen collection is coming out on November 17 and will be free for any gamer who is either a Game Pass subscriber or an owner of the original game.
