NickMercs had a hard time convincing his dad about his career

NickMercs had always loved playing games as a kid, and as he got older, he wanted to work towards a professional gaming career. However, his father, Kevin Kolcheff wasn't onboard with this path he set for himself. During an interview with PC Gamer, Nick's father, a high school football coach, explained he didn't understand the appeal of esports. He would often get frustrated with his son's gaming habits and he even destroyed his Xbox at one point.

In order to prove his dad wrong, NickMercs constantly competed in gaming tournaments. He was mostly successful during these events, but his parents remained unconvinced. However, Nick was still determined to pursue this career, with or without their blessing.

Eventually Nick gave up on trying to get his parents' approval, and decided to move out of their home for a time. Years later, Kevin Kolcheff would come around to seeing NickMerc's career as a legitimate enterprise, and would act as his son's manager.

NickMercs had a rivalry with Ninja

Over the years, NickMercs has dabbled a bit in playing professional HaloNinja, another one of Twitch's most popular streamers, was also a massive Halo player around the same time as Nick. However, the two weren't exactly on the best terms.

In a livestream, Nick talked about how he and Ninja had a rivalry that sparked a lot of anger between the two of them. Nick explained that a lot of the frustration came from Ninja's trash talking, which would constantly get under his skin. During a Halo match, Ninja pushed it a little too far.

"Now he don't do this anymore ... this guy, man, you know, he was good," Nick said. "He just ... gets right under [my skin] and pisses me off."

During a later event, Nick confronted Ninja and his team, fully ready to fight. Ninja eventually talked him down, and a brawl in the middle of a GameBattles venue was avoided. The two reconciled since, and they seem to be on good terms now.
