Tomb Raider Fans Just Got Even More Good News

Tomb Raider fans, get ready to jump for joy, because it looks like new games are definitely in your future. 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider, and the Crystal Dynamics team behind the franchise's most recent games is pulling out all the stops. In addition to the recently-announced Tomb Raider Netflix animated series that has fans across the world popping confetti, a full 5-minute teaser video shared by the official Tomb Raider Twitter account promises further excitement. The caption sums it all up: "We're celebrating 25 Years of Tomb Raider throughout 2021, with community features, nostalgic content, and surprises along the way!"

Every month, Tomb Raider's social media will be themed around a different game from the franchise. Community members are invited to take part in the festivities, and those who are into cosplay and fan art may even have their fandom creations highlighted. On top of that, unspecified "surprises" have been guaranteed, so fans are on the edges of their seats.

As exciting as the news is, fans have been advised to be patient. As Game Director Will Kerslake shared in the video, "We don't have plans for a major game announcement in the near future." However, the future games will be well worth the wait, just as past games have been. In the development process, Crystal Dynamics promises to take into account Lara Croft's vast and rich history and build a fully fleshed-out, cohesive, connected timeline that officially bridges the gap between Crystal Dynamics reboot series and Core Design's previous Tomb Raider titles.

Fans shared an outpouring of love and enthusiasm in the Twitter comments. @KonradMajewsk11 tweeted, "I'm crying tears of joy. Can't even express how happy I am. Sending love to everyone on the team and whole TR community! Can't wait to see what the future holds for us." Similar enthusiasm came from @CoreyOCroft, who tweeted, "UNIFY THE TIMELINES. WE LOVE TO HEAR IT."

While some folks are disappointed there hasn't been a specific new game announcement, the general sentiment is overwhelmingly positive. Sprinkled throughout the replies were stunning pieces of fan art, many of them capturing the sense of nostalgia the Crystal Dynamics team spoke to.

With the official Feb. 1 kickoff to the 25th anniversary festivities right around the corner, twists and turns are surely in store. Given the fact that the animated series was announced before the official kickoff, and that the movie sequel is well in the works, it's safe to say that more big news is imminent.
